Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The dealer model is wrong for me - too busy, too mnay cars, too formula-ised to really take the time to care for the needs of your car. They are great for fleet maintenance and for providing kids with a leg up into apprenticeships in the industry. They are required for warranty work and the servicing add-on supplements the workshop revenue to maintain the warranty capability.

It's good, but not good enough for me. It's like the difference between buying bread at a supermarket or from an artisan bakery, only the pricing difference is switched. No brainer for me.

I recently had my car serviced and took it to Autohaus Strecker in Alexandria ( http://www.autohaus.com.au/about-us.htm ) on teh advice of a friend, and i was happy with them. They were fast, cost less than i thought, and seemed to know what they were doing. Just my 5 cents...

I had an Audi 90 up until 2003 and Autohaus Strecker used to look after it, they were very good.

I've got a 03 Mk5 TDi that goes to VW Village now that it is out of warranty, they've been on Anzac Parade at Kensington since I can remember and they are still great.

Both good independent operators, and I'd easily recommend either of them.

Since it's your first service and you may be inclined to go to a dealer for software updates, I'd recommend McGrath Sutherland as they were a lot cheaper than Barloworld.

So i wouldnt be complaing *TOO* much, yes was a bit petty what they have done but dealerships and their rates are a lot higher so you wil be paying almost double to go to a dealer. Its your choice in the end, especially if you enjoy apprentices working on your car majority of the time (in syd anyhow)

After reading others opinions on here pushing non dealership servicing I decided to try European Autorech at Mona Vale. (I live at Epping 35 mins away).
I was very disappointed. I phoned them up and specifically said the airbag light on the dash is on and I wanted then to fix the problem, and while it's there they might as well do a service. (It's a 2006 MkV FSi Sportline with 33, 000 km's) I said it's not really due for one but might as well do one seeing I'm going to be without the car for the day) I arrive to pick it up that afternoon and they did a service but said they didn't have enough time to look at the airbag problem I'll have to bring it back another day. They did a minor service and rear pads for $470.00 and didn't fix the reason the car was in there in the first place. Off to McCarroll's at Hornsby in future.

Anyone have an opinion regarding Barloword Five Dock?

I bought a MK6 GTI from Denlo Parramatta at the end of last year and have had issues with the door seals, wind noise and the RCD510. At this point I do have to point out that the sales person was very good and that I am only commenting about the service department. Over the last 3 months, I have spent considerable time trying to get it sorted out with Denlo and they have denied any problem at all and passed it all off as "normal" or not occurring when tested. The service was so bad that they never returned calls, managed to not call me when the car was ready, they were going to lock it in their garage overnight because when I had specifically told them not to, and to top it off, when I got the car back, they had left the key in the glove box wide open and visible for the world to see and missing some of the items that they promised me as a sorry for the bad service.

I ended up taking the car to Barloworld Five Dock today and I was extremely impressed with their service. They have fixed all of the issues that Denlo said were "normal" and they did if for free as part of the warranty. They even ordered new parts for one of the door seals that I was not too fussed about. Anyways, I know I just wanted to see what the general consensus on Barloworld Five Dock is because I am obviously interested now. I know that dealer service is usually more expensive (and not something I usually do anyways) but I am willing to pay slightly more for the peace of mind and convenience. Any advice, experiences good and bad are very much appreciated.
