I fitted the H4s and parkers today. The glass on the W5W bulbs does look blue when they're off, but the light they produce is definitely white.

I totally agree on the packaging of the H4s from Philips. Unfortunately their H3s just come in cardboard boxes (though I'm sure mine are OK - I'll find out tomorrow once I work out how to get the covers off the back of the indicator/fog bulbs - it got late and too dark to see what I was doing today).
    Nothing to see here...

Hrm. We do a fair bit of country driving, so some more light would be a Good Thing. How do these compare with the standard bulbs for high beam and foglights in an '08 Golf?

I ordered the extreme H7 for Mk4 Golf and fitted it yesterday, it's HUGH difference. My wife has been kept complaining about the Mk4 headlight, now one problem fix .

It was a real pain to unclip the clip that hold the bulb on passenger side, but eventaully it was done and all good .

100% positive - elsewise the H4s I got wouldn't have fit in my Bora

Bora and Golf run different headlight assemblies (rectangular vs teardrop shaped) with totally different reflector shapes, so not totally surprising that the bulbs are different.

Finally got off my backside and ordered some H7 Philips Ex Tremes from Powerbulbs.com. Two pairs plus a spare plus the freebie parkers, total price ₤44.97 = approx $A 89.05 as the $A has recovered somewhat against the ₤. The discount code that Manaz posted still works!

Have always thought the Jetta headlights to be a little disappointing, looking forward to seeing the difference when they arrive.

                  Cheers

How's that for service, ordered Monday evening and found them on my doorstep this (Friday) evening. Great service, hope I can find time to fit them this weekend.

                      Cheers

If you are after Philips X-treme globes it might be worth checking if any of your local auto electricians or spares place carry them, I saw some H1s in at Lee & Thomas the other day, and I had a lot of trouble finding them only recently. Local price was OK too.

When I looked, the cheapest I could get them locally (even from eBay) was $80 for the H4s...

If anyones interested, theyre on sale at autobarn atm, $49.99. I work there and I think the sale ends on Sunday. I was going to get a set tonight but went for the Diamond Visions instead.

Depends where you do the majority of your night driving as to what lights you should go for. If you do a lot of highway/freeway driving, or dont have the best eyesight, the X-Tremes are the best. If you do a lot of driving in town, then the crystals/diamonds (The bright white globes) are generally better. The two styles are completely different types of lights. The white ones light up everything, but you dont really see a beam of light as such. This scares a lot of elderly people in particular as they think that the globes arent working. They can take a bit of getting used to but in my opinion theyre brilliant

Not that we all want to send our oz dollar to overseas, however that still miles different from Powerbulb's price (19.95 pound for H7/4, then 10% discount, free worldwide postage).

Unfortunately I doubt a lot of the price we pay stays locally anyway.

And to be honest, if someone in the UK can send me a set of H4s, a set of H3s and a set of W5Ws, including postage, for less than someone locally can supply just the same H4s, I don't know if we should be supporting the local businesses anyway...
