Finally changed garage light globes to 'Cool daylight' LED's

Been meaning to do this for a while. Woolies latest sale on LED globes got me over the line...

& now every time I flick on that light switch, it reminds me of the time I first saw the car in the showroom.

Standard incandescent globes with their 'warm' glow are overbearing in the house & block out the natural colours of wall paint, so I've changed most of them over to cool daylight (bar bedside table lamps). It's a more neutral tone that let's the true colours shine.

Same thing happens in the garage - warm bulbs place a dull, almost dirty tone on the cars paint. No more! The white light of the LED's bring natural life to the paint's look.

Well personally we have tried them and much prefer Cool White which at 5000k is a much whiter light than Cool Daylight which is 6500K and tends into the blue spectrum.
In actual fact at 5000k you get more light output than from higher K lights Strange but true

Interesting. Don't know if I've noticed 'Cool white' globes before.

I'm fine with 6500k - it's a decent natural/neutral shade that doesn't interfere with colours within its reach. & all globes in the house (bar a few) are these types, so I may as well stick with them.

I find the Cool White too blue and make everything look stark and like I am living in a morgue. I go out of my way to buy Warm White LED bulbs which gives the home a warmer feel at night - especially on a cold winter's night in Canberra. However, for a task area like the garage, I can understand why Cool White might work better (the blue light also helps wake you up, so you will find it easier to focus and concentrate).

Well the colour chart tells you what they are

Warm white is between 3500k and 4000k Cool white is the whitest and is usually 5000k
Daylight white is the horrible blue/white light and is usually 6500k
According to the experts the highest light out put is approx at the 5000k. That is despite the 4wd bunch that go for the 6500k ones and swear by them.
They are actually deceiving themselves as to the best light output

We have all cool white CFL's and our place doesnt in anyway look like a morgue. I think you are confusing the daylight white for the cool white which actually are rather hard to find at the moment as I went to get some last week and Bunnings only have the warm and the daylight and not the middle one. Had to go to a speciality light shop to get the right ones for $12 each.

Colour and beauty are definitely in the eye of the beholder. Yes I am familiar with Cool White, Daylight White and the difference between them but personally I find Cool White too stark for inside my home - I do use them for external/garden lights because as you say Cool White give you better light output for the same wattage. However, your mileage may vary and what does not work for me may work for you.

Yep Cool white is not supposed to be used in anything bar kitchens and maybe bathrooms, warm is for living rooms/bedrooms. I have warm white LED downlights in the ceiling in our kitchen and its as bright as hell and doesn't look like an office so even there cool wasn't really needed. Cool white isn't so crash hot for sleep. Garage I reckon cool would be better though and for outside lights.
