Sadly 6 Speed manual suffered major bearing failure at 205,000. No one car explain why.Originally posted by pallman View PostMy 2007 Golf 2.0 TDI has 215,000 km.

Interesting to see some higher mileages posted here. Lots of horror stories on these forums would lead you to believe every VW is a ticking time bomb, but I guess we only ever hear of the problems.

My 2007 Golf GTI manual trans has ~95,000kms on board, and apart from heaps of initial expensive warranty work (piston rings, 2 steering racks, driver's lumbar mechanism) seems to have settled into reliability (touch wood). I still periodically agonise over whether to sell or keep, though.2018 Golf GTI, Manual - gone.
2017 Golf 110tsi Trendline, manual (gone - gladly)
2007 Golf GTI, Manual, (gone - sadly)
1978 Golf GLS; 1972 Superbug, (memories)

Yes, maybe I have been lucky. Since 1988 my family and I must have clocked up well over a million k's in our various VW's and we've had a few of them. I didn't include the Bora 4mo in my post above that my son now has and it is well over 300,000k's and still on the original clutch or my wife's Vento that had 440,000k's on it when written off some years back.Originally posted by Splashalot View PostInteresting to see some higher mileages posted here. I'm not saying that the cars haven't suffered the usual faults for their model, sagging hood linings, and the Bora suffering with MAF, alternator and radiator fan problems early on. And I've had a couple of manual gearbox failures due to the diff rivets in my 1988 Golf GTI and my 1999 Seat Cupra. So far the engines have been pretty much bullet proof with only regular servicing at 15,000k's (and K&N air filters lol). Being on this forum has also been great for finding out possible faults and preemptively taking measures to avoid possible failures.

Currently with 2 high mileage diesels I am just waiting for a DPF or an EGR failure to occur lol.2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it

Gave up my Mk3 Golf at 370,000km - and yes, at 300,000 the odometer goes back to zero! Very reliable and trouble free vehicle.
Currently have a Skoda Octavia on 45,000km and a Polo on 18,000km.MY2014 Skoda Octavia Ambition Plus Wagon, DSG, Capuccino, Tech Pack
