Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Dash cam installation Sydney

Hey all, just wondering if anyone had a dash cam installed on their MK7 GTI or R in Sydney? I'm looking to get a Blackvue 2Ch installed and wish to use an installer who worked on these cars before.

Currently I've narrowed down to Strathfield car radios at Concord or The Car kit company mobile installers.

If anyone got any experience with these guys it would be greatly appreciated.

I also self installed (the front only). Dash cam A118C (would got for a A119 now) about AUD80, parts to hard wire from ebay cost $3, pluggin and threading cables takes 30min, really quite easy.

Super easy to do it yourself. I installed a 2 channel BlackVue, plus PowerMagic Pro, probably took 30 mins?

Did you do it properly with addafuses or just jam wires down the sides of fuses Ive done 7 and never done one that fast but then Im pretty fussy

Also takes a while to neatly hide the cables behind the panels especially at the rear.

I used fuse taps with twin fuses. The only cabling visible is from each dashcam to the nearest trim (maybe 7-10cm max at the front, 1-2cm at the back.) I removed the trim at the top of the hatch, and ran cable through it. I didn't find I needed to take much else off.

The only way I've see the cable hid better is taking apart the surround for the rear view mirror/sensor assembly which I didn't feel was worthwhile.

I've had it in since October last year and the cables haven't poked out at all. So I'm happy enough.
