Has anyone here rented from turo.com? Keen to hear your experience and how much the insurance is. The website itself looks pretty cool - You can book the exact car you see. I've already noted a handful of VAG cars I'd like to fang
On my trips to the USA i have used Cheap Car Rental, Best Prices for Rental Cars! - EconomyCarRentals.Com They get quotes from the big companies and offer really good rates. I have had several hires and always great.
Booked an Impala for 53 days for around $2000US and ended up with an upgrade to a Tucson One way Buffalo to LA with full no excess insurance..and roadside assistanse at $6 a day Did 7,000 MILES A bit over half the price quoted from a direct quote to the same company
( National car hire) part of the Alamo, Enterprise group Prev time booked an Impala and ended up with a Chrysler 300c for same rate $36US a day with full no excess ins
Turo looks like the UBER of the car hire industry
That Turo site is offering private cars for local hire. and they are expensive as well. Hubber have similar in LA We had an Audi A4 for 4 days for $205. Dont think you could do a long hire or a one way like we did and ours was a lot cheaper than those ones.
People leave them at the airport and Hubber give them $10 a day for it to be hired out at $50 a day and Hubber cover the insurance etc., but it is only for the time the owner is away. Can be a weekend or a week or whatever. Cars are not as clean and tidy as a real rental and ours had baby stuff in the boot..Also no idea of what you will get, could be a BMW or a Ford F250. Some restricion on mileage per day as well I think.
We always get Excess reduction on our travel insurance so dont have to worry about that
From the depths of the Turo site there is this and its not really good
Protection plans made available on Turo to guests include liability insurance and a contract that sets forth your level of responsibility for Physical Damage...
How much does a protection plan cost? How much a protection plan costs depends on the plan you choose The more a plan costs, the less you’re respons...
If you disregard Turo policies, we’ll charge you a violation fee. If you cancel a trip or fail to show up for a booked trip, Turo will charge you a can...
So basically you can add nearly 50% onto the advertised daily rate if you take out the good insurance package and you could still be up for $500 plus any damage to interior of the car (if any)
Looking at all the ins and outs and hidden charges I would go the way I have before as you know what you are in for without problems.
Alamos damage policy is they dont worry about a dent a 50c piece covers ( Shopping trolley bump?)or a scrape a $5 bill covers.
Might have to order a V8 as even the 300 was only a 6. The Mustang and the Camaro rentals are usually 6's as well.
You can get Premium cars at about $100 a day but our Tuscon and the Kuga managed to keep up with the traffic on the Freeway and you wouldnt want a big car in the city. The 300 was worse to park than my Landcruiser LOL.

Mamba Ebike to replace Tiguan
I rented a Dodge Challenger R/T from Hertz in Vegas once... That was a V8 (just the stock 5.7 not the full Hellcat - I wish!)
Really do like the idea of trying out the cars we don't get in Oz
