The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. Look for a recent comparison by Mercedes of OEM and aftermarket rims (done at Holden's Lang Lang testing ground,) then think about it.

It will affect the factory warranty if a rim fails — or any other part they can claim is in any way related to rims.

That test compared factory AMG wheels to Chinese knock-off wheels that imitated the same design and didn't conform to Australian standards. Aftermarket wheels from reputable manufactures, such as BBS or CSA or whatever, which conform to Australian design rule standards, will be perfectly safe and in most cases of the same or higher quality than the factory wheels.

It will only effect warranty if the rims where way bigger then any of the factory wheels and they caused premature wear to the drive train due to there weight or offset causing extra strain on suspension and what not. If you stay within the factory sizes you won't have a drama.
If you put 20"x10" on it and your stereo blows it's still covered, but if your bearings fail that's another matter. 17" will be fine.
