Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Where do you guys get your replacement bulbs?

    Hey guys,
Where's the best source for replacement bulbs? Specifically taillights. I've scoured the forum for a few days with no clear answer, so apologies if this is somewhere obvious.

One of my taillight bulbs blew and a few more disintegrated as I was pulling out the connectors, so I may as well replace all the taillights.

As VW is quite new to me, I'm reading that I have to be careful that the replacements do not throw up any error codes on the dash. I'm also reading that ebay is russian roulette with fakes.

I'm open to the possibility of replacing them with LED if anyone can recommend a replacement..

The ones in there currently are W16W, RY10W, W21W, H6W. I've tried powerbulbs already but no go.

    Many thanks!

Local spares place if it's just a normal filament bulb. I usually buy a name-brand like Narva or Philips. Just double check they've given you the right base as some of the VAG product have an offset pin configuration in both directions.

The genuine VW bulbs are very good quality & not excessively expensive.

I'm not sure why you were out of luck at Powerbulbs.

Thanks brad, as per your advice I ended up getting the W16W ones from VW. They were Toshiba brand and about $9 each.
Supercheap could get them but I had to order them and I emailed Powerbulbs and they said they don't sell any of the ones I was after. Ta.

Haven't had to replace any yet. But yes, I like Osram too.
