  • Driver legroom in DSG cars

I've driven several cars with DSG transmissions like Passat, Golf, Focus Powershift and Peugeot 508.

All of them seemed to have constrained legroom where the left leg is especially the Golf and Focus, I find I got to keep my leg pretty much straight whereas there is plenty of room for my right leg which really isn't needed as it's always being used.

I'm surprised it's never been mentioned in motoring press or even forums not that I can find. I'm only 6'1, tall but nothing beyond normal range.

Is it just me or do other people notice this? I'm thinking it has something to do with being RHD?

Peugeot 508 is at traditional auto, it is not a Dual Clutch Transmission.

My Jetta has less room than my Passat in the foot well area, but I would not call it a problem.

What I dislike about the Passat is you cant really rest your right knee against the door or front of the armrest like I could in the Cruiser and the Commodore.
I drove a Audi A4 in the USA and hated it as the edge of the centre console was quite sharp and I had to put a towel on it where my leg rested against it. Same on the Tuscon had a towel wrapped against console. Must try one here to see if its just the perception that the other leg is not used to it

I don't feel that the issue is DSG-specific.

The only differences are the stick that comes out of the centre console, and the brake pedal width. Centre console, floorpan, etc are identical compared to manual variants.
