Brighter headlights - 25% discount for Osram and Phillips

From an OzBargain thread that has just shown up, there's a 25% discount on headlamp bulbs:

I'm considering getting a pair of bulbs and switching them in place of the default halogens of my B7 Passat.

What I'm unsure of though is which brand and which lights will I need?

H4 I'm seeing shows two filaments for the low and high beam.
H7 has one filament only.

What bulbs will I need in order to swap the bulbs and give me longer headlight distance in my car?

I believe powerbulbs has a filter thing where you put in your cars year make model etc. And it automatically tells you what type/size each bulb is. Eg: parkers, headlights etc.

Unfortunately, they only go to B6 Passat (2010) - I have a 2011 B7.

B7 is the H7 main and another H7 for the high beam.

Thanks. I'll be able to do a low and high beam light replacement then if I get 2 sets of H7 bulbs?

Which to go for?

I'm guessing that given the bulbs are brighter they potentially will burn out faster?

I received a response back from PowerBulbs from the question I posed.

The H4 is a twin filament bulb so wil work both the dipped beam and high beam.
The H4 is a universal fitting so any H4 bulb will fit no modifications are needed to fit the upgraded bulbs supplied by us.

I'm going to go with the above image and get two sets of H7 bulbs instead.

Basically, the high beam is so because of the reflection cone isn't it? The cone looks to be deeper than the main beam so focuses the reflected light more strongly to be the high beam?

Yeah. Its all to do with the reflector.
