  • Good GPS?

I'm going to be a P plater within a month (let's hope), And as i'm still new to the roads, i'd like to buy a GPS as i'll probably get lost a **** tonne.

i don't want to use my phone as i want something purely as a GPS and i don't want to always have to fiddle around looking for my phone, and worry about the battery charge, or if someone calls or whatever the case might be.

i would like something fairly new, with updated maps/lifetime maps maybe.

i don't want to spend a tonne of money, even second hand is good as long as it has new maps. I'm aiming to spend anywhere between $0 and $150. obviously cheaper the better, but quality over quantity.

can someone suggest a device? been looking mainly at TomTom's, Navman's and Garmin's.

I bought the top of the range Navman and it was a waste of money. Took forever to load.
Had a old TomTom and it worked amazing.

Have had a Tomtom for past 7 years and prefer that to the Garmin Nuvi I had before and the later Garmin I was lent to use in USA.

A friend has a 7" Navman and i really dont like it much either.
A Tomtom Go is a pretty good model

      The all new TomTom GO

A Go Live also has traffic updates which I found good in the US but havent used it here.

If you want a cheap model a s/hand Go 730 like I have can be bought cheap and for $100 you can get 6 maps at 3 month intervals

This is a good model I am selling my GPS Navigator Tomtom Go Live 2050 | Audio, GPS, & Car Alarms | Gumtree Australia Parramatta Area - Harris Park | 1081889109

Not a GPS, just a suggestion. I used my phone on Red P's for navigation by setting the route, hiding the phone out of sight and having the audio routed through the stereo. It would speak the street names so I had no problems navigating and was good enough if I paid close attention to street signs.
Did this because it's basically free and you'll be on Red P's for only one year anyway, Green P's let you use phone handsfree.

Now I have Siri in my car so everything is a piece of cake while driving and it's legal to use on Green P's.
