Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

    Cancel trade in opinions and advice please

    Hi All,

    on Sunday I signed contract of sale on a Scirocco at a VW dealer. I also decided to trade in. I now wish to cancel trading in and sell privately. My question is am I too late now? I am picking up car on Saturday and haven't signed the finance documents yet also. Does it come down to dealer generosity as I still want the car anyway just prefer to sell private now.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks

    I did exactly that, just rang the dealer and told him I would not be trading. Was no problem at all and they had lowballed my trade in which I sold privately for $5,000 more than the trade in offer. I suspect dealers these days just don't want to trade, market seems to be awash with used cars.

      Thanks George, I hope this is also the case as I have actually signed the papers, but nothing exchanged as yet. Did you get a new contract of sale? I'd like to think I can cancel the trade in and still get the car. Wish I thought of it earlier but that's hindsight.

          Why not just call the dealer and ask? The sooner you ask, the better the chances of the dealer having no issue with the change.

            Yeah it's all ok sorted it today. Just wanted opinions/ previous experiences last night before I called them today.
