Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • What would you do with your car?

Let say, if you have 5-6 year old perfect car, would you consider selling that car just because car is not modern anymore or because you got more than 200k on odometar?
I know some people who has lot issue even with new car....also, i know lot people who enjoy therir 6 or more old car without any issue (i am one of them). Even if i go for new car i cannot get all features which i have now. That mean i have pay more just for standard features now then before...
...question is: why and when you would sell your car?
Or would you sell car every 5 year or drove car until car is dead..?
P.s. sorry for my english. This is my sscond language.

My Octavia was supposed to be in the driveway for 2 yrs. 6 yrs later it's still there with no intention of selling it.

I keep it because it's reliable, doesn't have any rattles & I enjoy driving it a spending a few dollars to make it how i like it.

I'm keeping mine because it's never let me down, and isn't worth anything any more,
I'd live a fresh car, but don't see the point when there isn't anything really wrong with mine

I sold a 6 year old car and bought an 11 year old car with even more km on it.

The truth is, an old car is almost always cheaper overall to keep, because as it ages its depreciation rate also decreases, and the running costs are almost the same as a new car of comparable specification. There comes a point where the cost of an old car (usually about 10 years) is reduced basically to whatever running costs are incurred, making it a lot cheaper than a new car.

So, if you are happy with it, keep it!
