Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Check out how my car was returned to me from a certain VW dealer in Brisbane!

My essentially brand new $60,000 Mk 7 Golf R without a scratch on it prior to dropping it off at the dealer on July 1:

Picked it up tonight and thought I should do a once over to be sure there's no scratches and found this:

They didn't tell me when I picked up the car the damage had been done. There's no way you could have done this and not known.

Called them straight away and was told they would fix it. Still fricken annoying! I'll be pushing for a new bar and re-application of opticoat.

    So how was your day?

Out of respect of the forum rules, I won't publicly state the name of this dealer so as to not expose the forum to the threat of legal action.

Grrrr, makes you wonder how they were driving it when it happened...

Good luck with bringing it back to new!

Doesn't the car have a black box? Get a dump of that.

        *nose tap/wink*

That is an awful lot of scraping and the part near the front wheel seems out of place.
I would be going for replacement + opticoat as well.

Can I ask why you took it to the dealer? Jmac is the man in Brisbane for all your servicing needs.

Conveniently, the Service Manager and General Manager of the dealership are both out today and can't see me...

Please PM me more details. I'd love an alternative Does he do VW warranty work though?

It looks bad. Check the underbody for more damage.

I use prestige and performance for my servicing.
unfortunately warranty work has to be carried out by the dealership from memory.

                  I'm not in Brisbane.

Do non-dealers participate in the capped price servicing that all of our MK7s have for the next three years?

                  Cheers,

So I've been to the dealership and shown them the damage under the car. We put it up on the hoist to ensure there was no further under body damage. Thankfully there wasn't!

I have requested a brand new front bar installed under my supervision and the re-opticoated by my contractor.

One thing I forgot to mention earlier was that the car was in Race mode when I collected it as well...

As neither the Service Manager or General Manager where at the dealership today, I've been told someone will be in contact with me.

So what was the warranty work that you required to be done? If it didn't require the car to be test driven, particularly in Race Mode, I'd be seriously asking for more than just a replacement front bar!!!

I wouldn't think so, but ask JMac himself....he's on these forums. But whilst the dealer servicing may be capped price, I'd be pretty certain non-dealer servicers would still be cheaper than the dealer capped prices.

Although it sounds like this was the result of fanging your car. Im pretty sure those scrapes are simply from being a little careless leaving a driveway. Have a look under just about every mk6 R and they are covered in scrapes. I know mine is. The plastic is pretty soft and it only takes a couple seconds of concrete to do that sort of damage. Its still not somehing you want to find when you pick up your car and im not on the dealers side here but at least you can take some piece of mind that they haven't lost control and driven up a gutter or something stupid to cause it.

Oh definitely. The Service Advisor already admitted to me the driveway at the back of the dealership is terrible.

Someone may call you and ask for your vw dealer service experience, they do this so if you respond positively they send you a VWA survey. But...if you say it was rubbish you never see the survey and they move on to the next guy. Soooo if you want to actually offer feedback where it counts, be satisfied on the phone but truthful on the survey.
