Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • First experience with a VW Service

Had the 15,000 km service today by VW in Belconnen. As well as the service - where have the last 15,000 kms gone! - I also asked them to look at the leaking rear washer which they had previously repaired but which is still leaking though less often.

Service was around $15 more than the current fixed price. Can't for the life of me see one or a group of items that add up to the difference so can only assume(?) the fixed price service was less than the $292 but there were additional items which took the price over.

The rear washer was repaired not that long ago, as it leaked often. While it's not leaking as often, it is still happening. They did look at it, finger prints on glass prove that, but I was advised on collecting the car along the lines of "It's a know aspect that the repaired rear washer may leak after you have used it. This is because there is water left in the tube between the valve and the outlet and it may drip out. There is nothing that can be done, but they have reported it to VW". I've never owned a car with a rear washer before, so I assume this happens to them all?

    Some other things:

Every item that was in the boot (shopping bags, umbrella, receipts etc) were all on the back seat. Will have to remember to empty the boot next time before the service, but would have been nice if they'd put it all back in the boot.

Finger prints all over the rear window.

At least this time they did not leave the plastic protector or a rag in the car which they did last time. Of my three visits to them, from the two times they have done work they do seem a little sloppy.

I imagine I'll receive the "how was your experience" call in the next day or so and will provide them this feedback and ask about the price difference. For those who might comment - I didn't get them to fix these immediately as I was running late for an appointment.

If you've not had a VW service center look at it, then you should as VW do have a fix which reduces the leak.

Needs a one way valve added in the hose as close as possible to the washer nozzle - TSB#2023248 in the US (not sure if that is the Australian #). Parts are:
          Hose, part # 443-955-665, quantity 2; Valve, part # 113-955-975-C, quantity 1; Heat Shrink Sleeve, part # 000-979-992-A, quantity 1; Coupler piece, part # 1J0-955-875-R, quantity 2. It's an easy fix.

There have been leaks with the VW valve as it's 1 psi.

I fixed the drip permanently myself with BMW/Mini #61-68-8-229-249 - Non-return valve quantity 1, which is a 3 psi valve instead of the VW valve.

How did you obtain this part?

Either order from ECS Tuning, or go to BMW dealer spare parts counter.
