    There are quite a few cars out with brake/throttle overrides... Toyota for one.

    I thought it was a no-no to have DSG in drive and to apply the handbrake....

      Well you don't hold the car against the handbrake in D. It's to supplement the foot brake to assist in taking off.

      It's really for those that can't get their head around the concept of a DSG transmission. It's a manual gearbox afterall.

        There is no problem using the handbrake, just that you don't stop the car and then hold it stationary with the transmission in anything other than N or P. You can use the handbrake as you would in a manual for a hill start. You just don't hold it stationary. The reason for using the handbrake is that the transmission takes around 1/4 second in a forward gear before the clutch starts to engage, and around 1/2 to 3/4 second in reverse before the clutch starts to engage. Using a handbrake during that time is perfectly OK, or if you have your foot on the brake and have the handbrake held applied, ready to depress the accelerator.
