Apart from the integrity of the procedures at ADAC, I can't say I'm too fussed about it.

In the past, there was certainly a tendency for the media in every country with an advanced car industry to be somewhat biased towards their national brands (Australia, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United States, etc) although that has been toned down a lot in modern times.

Not to take anything away from the Mk7 Golf (very compelling all-round package given its price tag and market positioning), but personally, awards like these have next to no bearing on the decision process of buying a car.
