Has my comp caught something, or is VWW really slow and weird because of ads?

PC runs the same speed, with no software related crashes from the day I installed the OS. ( I reinstall windows every year or so though...)
Malware just doesn't seem to be as much as a problem on windows 7/8.

Worms and Trojans can be though and you may not even know you got them.

Lots of sites other than Porn ones will drop unseen stuff on your machine without you knowing.

Have spent years fixing so called unaffected machines with out of date or no antivirus programs on them.

Just because you don't get ransomware or weird Internet popups doesn't mean you're not infected. You could have ZeroAccess for example or be part of some other botnet. Education websites for some reason are also one of the most popular ways of finding infections.
