Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Peugeot 208 GTI

    Had a test drive in the new 208 GTI today, nice toy. Few coming into the country now.

    Nicely built and styled overall, good power, handes well. I was impressed at how it moved over the bumps, cornered and got the power down, the steering is direct but is light. small racy steering wheel.

    My GF is strongly considering.

    Does anyone have any input into our considering one? She's had a 206 GTI for years, I like that the new one has an engine that appears to be the same / very similar to the Cooper S.

    I was a bit bummed when you said your girlfriend is seriously considering one. I was actually going to say that I would consider one, but kind of feel a bit emasculated now...lol

      Well as the DS3 is virtually the spastic twin of the 208, I can say it is a great car - albeit mine has the detuned engine to 115kw. I haven't had any reliability issues with it whatsoever (had it since December last year and done 13000km), even after going on gravel roads and 'events' that I take part in. Servicing and customer service - at least at my dealership - is really good. I've noticed servicing costs and part costs have decreased in price since Sime Darby is now controlling Citroen so perhaps Peugeot parts are cheaper now as well. 208GTi seems to be a great little package at the moment and is surprisingly practical for a small car.

      When I got the DS3 DSport I was considering the Allure Sport 208 with the same engine/transmission (I actually think the interior is much more classy in the 208 ), however the DS3 was about $4000 cheaper at the time and the fact I prefer the weirdness of the DS3 is why I went with it.

      My only niggle is that second gear is quite a long ratio, not sure what it's like on the 208 GTi though but you do get used to it.

      If it helps here is my thread from last year;

      Ignore my con about the 208 having scratchy plastics, that was me assuming stuff.

        Mate nice car and don't want to put you off but one of my employees just bought a low click demonstrator from a Brisbane dealership and it's already been back a few times with oil leaks.

        Just a heads up bud

          I drive a Polo dude, if you like it...

          Was impressed with the overall driving experience, it does have some flaws, but they seem minor compared to how much fun it was.
