  • Volkswagen Australia winning the public back.

I noticed an interesting addition to the Volkswagen Australia website today... Seems like they're trying to re-assure future (and current) customers in spite of the recent poor media.

Volkswagen Australia – Worth thinking about

*Sorry, didn't realize there was a media section. Mods, feel free to move this post.

Volkswagen always did have a slick marketing & advertising division, which I'm sure was instrumental in establishing the image they have (or had) in the minds of consumers over the years, so all credit to them.

As for the product itself, well... those who actually spent their own money purchasing, driving, fueling & servicing the things (i.e. the ordinary consumer) will be the ultimate judge of that.

That is what advertising is when it comes to a discretionary purchase. The advertiser establishes reliability and integrity, and then creates a need where none existed. Then the emotional side comes in and in the end, what should NOT be an emotional purchase becomes one.

This is not just what VW do, but what every manufacturer of any product does.

This is why you should never buy on the spot, no matter what you might be told the consequences would be. With any discretionary purchase you must always review things and make sure it is what you want (it's not a need).

This does not mean that VW is good or bad, or that any other manufacturer is good or bad. They are all the same, although it is how they react that sets them apart.
