Wheel thoughts for a Tig

Just wanted to know your thoughts on a set of these 20's on my new MY13 Tig 132TSI Pacific.

They look pretty good.
20" wheels are going to transfer the bumps into the cabin a lot more than the oem 16's.
Also they are very open so your brakes are going to look small behind them.


For future reference, you have to use a url that ends in .jpg for the image tags to work.

19's are probably as big as i would go for comfort sake.
If i had my time again i would probably go for 18" wheels as it gives you a wider variety of cheaper tyres and less bump transfer.

I did think of 18 but...... They just look so small compared to 19/20's.

I am going to be doing Eibach springs as well so that will exaggerate any transfer probs as well.

I was thinking of the Talladega's in a 18 or 19. Theres a few a about on Gumtree etc. What kind of offset for 18/19's?

The offset required will depend on the width of the wheel you have.
I agree that 18's do look small comparatively, i guess it's up to whether you want looks or comfort.

I am running 19 x 8 ET35 and it is as close to flush as i would want.
the lower the ET number the further outward the wheel will push.

ok so as an example if it was a 8.5 rim I may have to go with an ET40.

Maybe 19's are a good compromise.

The first set of aftermarket wheels i had was 19 x 8.5 ET45.
I think Et40 would be as low as you would want to go

look at the max size of wheels as a factory option...when you go over that the car tends to drive and feel crap but look good... if i change my jetta wheels i will stick with 18" as they are 16" standard and have factory option 18" fitted and drives great... drove a mk6 gti with 20" the other day and it totally destroyed the car...handled and felt horrid but looked ok...VDUB...

You can get 19" wheels for the Tig as a factory fitted option though not a standard option in Australia.

I've had both 18's and 19's on my car and I think the 18" wheels look a little small (probably due to having 50 profile tyres) and the 19's look a bit big (they're a big wheel on a relatively small car).

Also as team_v says if you go with an open design you will see the (relatively) small brakes. I've painted my calipers but the discs and calipers are still dwarfed by the rims.



These are 19x8 ET35 and sit pretty flush (no poke).

The "stock" 19" rim sold overseas is 19x9 ET35(?) but Tigs with these also get the flared guard extensions fitted.

Careful with Talladegas - I was looking at going down this path but if they're off a Golf/Scirocco then they won't fit on a Tig properly (wrong offset). The wheels will sit too far inboard. I think you'll find most of the Talladegas will be ET50 or ET45.

Thats some useful tips. I got a quote from Tempe for 19x8 R Spec (Talladega reps) and they said its available in +45, +35 & +30. I reckon Ill prob go for the +35.

Not bad pricing $1800 with 245/45R19 KU31's delivered to Hobart.

Thoughts?

I'm running 19x8 ET35 and fitting is fine with stock guards.

That's a pretty reasonable price given it includes shipping.
