Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Cupra - was that the storm that passed through last night?? it was pretty nasty
I was driving home with my boyf (was raining) and as soon as i pulled up infront of my house we got hammered by HAIL!! i was literally crying because my polo was in the driveway getting pummeled..
There was a brief pause in the rain/hail so we ran to the front but as soon as we got there LOL we got smashed with hail and rain. i was saturated through a jacket, vest and jeans.
Luckily the polo survived with not a scratch!

I love lightning photos! We had a storm the other night and I tried to get some, but had no luck... Oh well, it was my first time...
Did get this one last night just before the rain started to pour...
RAW, Tv:1/100, Av:5.0, ISO200
Cheers!

Great snapping Guys!
Didn't know you were such a fine photographer John!
We should do a photo trip sometime around the coast.
Heres one of my favs, from the big storms we had back in October-November 2007 on the coast.
Happy snapping!!sigpic07 GTI

was watching 10HD docos this afternoon. that crazy guy on angry planet was chasing storms and taking some awesome lightning pictures. He said you need to have your exposure as long as possible to take lightning pics? And its kind of a luck of the draw if you get the picture
What kind of an exposure is suitable to take lightning pics? I also noticed he had a tripod which is necessity for long exposure pics right?
i love storms and would like to try take some pics next time we have one

It's always a good idea to use a remote shutter with the camera set on "Bulb". That way you control the release, so you don't capture overlapping strikes. I use a Micnova wireless shutter that has a 100m range.Canadian dubs coming to VWwA soon

Set the camera on "Bulb" and yeah if you have a wireless shutter release use that!
A tripod and a long exposure are definates,
I find it depends on the storm, sometimes I get lucky just popping of 30 sec exposures and if there is a lot of lightning in one area you are bound to get one in frame.sigpic07 GTI
