  • Anyone tried trading in their VW the last few days.

After having a few issue with the Jetta lately , airbag light on again and see this thread :

I thought it time to start to look for something new and did a few searches, sent a few emails and made
    a few calls,
Now Im most likely going to be berated on here for even thinking of a Citroen C4 diesel with Egs gearbox but there
is not much out there if you want low fuel economy, diesel and an auto box.

So when it came to ask the dealer if they had a auto diesel in stock everything seemed fine until he asked
if I was looking to trade which I said yes , VW TDI DSG , he said I need to put you on hold, came back a short time
later to say he will need to speak with his boss when he returns but doesn't think they will look at trading the VW.
I said is this because of all the bad press which he indicated was the problem, he said they have had a number
off calls from people with VW's looking to trade.

So looks like I maybe left with a vehicle I cannot sell.

Anyone else had any similar experience the last few days during this media blitz on VW's.

I was wondering when the bad press would eventually bite VW on the a$$. Haven't seen a dramatic decrease in value or a lack of interest in our cars lately but I can see it happening. Yeah could be worry. Wouldn't say it means you'll have a car that you cannot sell, just one that isn't as valuable anymore.

      It will blow over.

At the moment it's in the media. Give it 3 months and everyone will go back to not caring and complaining about whatever latest **** they want to shovel down our throats to make us consume.

There are plenty of options, depending on your budget.

If I was a dealer I'd use the current issues to try & lowball my customers.

Bugger me, he's a Citroen dealer. He should be used to having cars on the lot that nobody wants.

It's not biting VW on the a$$... it's biting vw owners on the a$$.
The only outcome so far is a trashing of VW resale values. None of the customer issues have been resolved.
Some VW owners seem quite happy to cut off their noses to spite their faces.

And I can't believe anyone would touch Citroens EGS transmission!!!!

The thing that amazes me is all these people that claim to have parked their faulty cars in the garage & don't use them.
              It's because it's not true.

I had my 2010 90TSI DSG (40k ODO) up for sale last month for just under 19k ( I know I was dreaming) - no calls.

So I lowered the price to just under 15k still no calls - so I took it off the market and talked to a Subaru dealer for trade in but they are not interested .... So much for resale value and I don't think it will go away as anyone who is buying a used car these days is doing some research before and it will come up again and again. Even if you have a complete different car to the ones affected it would still be difficult to sell.

Looks like I have to keep the Golf and hope for the best.....

It took 5 weeks to sell my 118 TSI in march. 3 weeks from first advert to first enquiry. Same with my mk5 comfortline. 3 weeks till 1st enquiry.

                    Just patience my friend.

Regardless of what the actual situation is, whether DSG is reliable or not, I think the press/talk around it makes people too affraid to buy an auto VW that's out, or nearly out, of warranty for fear of having a car that blows a gearbox and devalues itself 7 grand.

At least Citroen got to try out what everyone else says when people go to trade in the cars they sell.

Annoying they dodge liability and continue on without a solution.

No, you park them outside VW dealers with a sandwich board letting buyers know what they might be buying. Sure, the dealers will call the police, but this means the media might be there as well, and a 30 second (or even a 10 second) piece on every news service might just work wonders :^)

After all, the Japanese coal buyers used to do this when the coal price negotiations were being conducted. Anchor every coal carrier off Newcastle (and other ports) even if those vessels were not due to be carrying coal for months.

Seriously tough, it is not an option for many to park their cars. This HAS to be resolved. We simply do not have these cars as hobby cars that we take out once a month for a spin.

If people are selling their VWs only because of this publicity, then it is plainly not the right thing to do. Whether the publicity is justified or not, it is simply the wrong time to be selling the vehicle if there is nothing wrong that you have experienced. Basically, the price you would be getting is what you would get for one that has already exhibited the fault.

A good friend of mine is in the market for a new car. She has had a Mazda 323 and a Mazda 3. She saw my Caddy Maxi Life and after going for a drive in it a few months back, she was very keen on something in the VW range, and in particular a DSG equipped one as she has an automatic only licence.

Well, after all this broke loose, she has basically scrubbed any VW off the list. She is due to retire at the end of the year, and the last thing she wants is a car that is potentially a lemon, and (more importantly) a manufacturer that has to be dragged kicking and screaming to resolve what is a pretty basic design flaw.

A new Mazda 3 or CX5 is now high on the cards. Yes, there are some issues with Mazda, but she has had a good run with Mazda and so is likely to go with another one. The key is that when she has had problems with her other Mazdas, the dealers have not tried to brush things off...They have fixed things.

A manufacturer is rated by the service it delivers and not just by the product it sells.

My Passat is just a few months old, so not trading in. (If I do, will be Mercedes, so would have to wait a LONG while)
Anyway, dealer I purchased from is also local dealer for Holden, Mitsubishi and on other I cant remember.
Wonder what trade in they would offer me on new Commodore?

It's not just the DSG's with trade in problems. Tried to trade in my MANUAL 2012 Golf Bluemotion on an Amarok. Car is 11 months old, 7200km on the clock. Paid $27500 for it. I could buy the basic single cab TDI Amarok with Aluminium tray for $28,900 drive away. I was offered $18,000 change over. That is $10,900 trade in......... Puts me off buying another new VW.
Dealer told me that VGA is offering demo bluemotion TDI golfs with 1000-2000km on the clock, to dealers for $13,000. So there is no way they will give me more for mine.
