  • Shipping Costs?

Just curious why are so many companies charging such exorbitant amounts of money for shipping even the most basic of car part items?

Seriously $1100 bucks shipping for coilovers, when the coilovers themselves cost $2400!! WTF!

    Shipping Costs?

    It is astonishing.

A rear strut brace. 48" long piece of pipe.. $190 shipping.

It's because they have all caught on to the fact they make more out of inflated shipping costs than the products these days. That's why you will never see the freight companies charges on the box or on a separate invoice with your goods

This is why I use parcel forwarding companies for parts that international sellers want stupid amounts to post, normally works out much cheaper. They add a little fee for the service, but only charge the actual postage, which is often discounted too. Although the real savings add up when you buy parts from a bunch of different online stores there, and have them pack them all into one box and send that over. Have had nothing but good experiences with shipito. Although if it's not in the US then I don't know.

hmm this sounds tempting, considering the coilovers come with free shipping within the states,

farout I just worked out how much the shipping would cost, from $172 -$267. Man soo BS, I think I could hire a shipping container and load it up full of stuff cheaper than $1100 bucks!

I use www.hopshopgo.com for my freight forwarding ex US and Forwarding Service, UK Mail Address, Shop & Ship, Parcel Forwarding, UK Brands Worldwide ex UK

I managed to get 4 rims ex UK for about 250 pounds and 4 tyres ex US for $250 both direct from sellers.

Pepsi, you were either conned, or the shipper didnt have an international freight account and got ripped badly

                  Re: Shipping Costs?

looks like it's free shipping in the US, so id definitely have it sent to someone like shipito and have them send it, should be under $200 id guess. Keep in mind you'll get stung with a tax since its over $1000 though. Might work out cheaper to get locally, can't hurt to find out

Dont always jump to the conclusion that you are being ripped off.
Good quality dampers are generally charged with nitrogen. This means the shipper is supposed to class them as "dangerous goods" if being sent by air otherwise they need to come in by sea.

Not saying this is the cause for the above pricing but it could well be.

if the ex US price is $2400 plus say $200 for shipping, your total landed cost here will be:

                      (assuming AUD=USD)

                      purchase $2400
                      shipping $200
                      import duty $130 (@5%)
                      GST $273
                      customs agent $50-80

not sure what car you have, but Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels and Awesome GTI - Volkswagen Audi Group Specialist both carry V3 KWs.

Bizarre! I bought a set of Konis about 2 months back from the same seller & postage was ~$240 on a $550 product. Weight & box size would have been quite similar.

I would think the V3s most likely have an error in their database (probably in item weight, extra digit somewhere) if other coilovers cost ~$200 to ship. Just email them if you're sure the V3s are the ones you want.

Don't forget what gareth said about the customs and duty charges though... and AUD is more like 0.94 against US these days when you make payment (it's never the open market exchange rate).
