After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

In regards to the incident, until the coroner hands down the findings or the results of the investigation into their vehicles is complete, there's not much VW can do.

At this point in time, we (the general public) do not know for certain who or what is to blame for Ms Ryan's death.

How VW deals with its customers is another matter.

Volkswagen Driver Claims VW Threatened His Job Over Fault

This guy has not defamed VW – he is simply pursuing every channel to get his issue resolved. That VW would use a lawyer to threaten his career because he used his work email is appalling and unethical.

What self respecting company that values customer service would do that to one of their own customers?

    Simply disgraceful and nasty behaviour.
Typical corporate behaviour - is anyone really surprised?

    • I've read a few pages and on the face of it, having had experience with VW Aus's processes- I'm with OzVW and RoknRob.I'm a VW person through and through. It wasn't my Injector shutdown that phased me when it happened ( as i was expecting it)-no it was the fact that VW knew about the problem, took an actuarial approach in deciding on a non official recall, and didn't pay for a tow which cost $800. So unnecessary, and to someone who's family are devotees(7 Vw's and counting) and acted very civily and professionally in all dealings. They really have cocked up dealing with issues they are/were aware of,-so so unnecesary the approach. I was only too happy to accept a phone call from the age.I had no bad word to say about the car but stated known issues with a range of the VW cars which could be investigated, however my focus was on VW's approach to its customers not their cars!

Take it to the dealer to get it repaired, or if there is no fix. just get together with all other people with the same problem and park all your faulty cars infront of the VAG head office and invite the media (TV), get some real action not the talk over in the forums .
You were born at the similar times as I, so I expect from someone from the older generation to still remember how the things were fixed in the old days - by real actions not hiding behind the keyboards. The Fairfax and the media will not fix your car, the VAG will, you can use the media to try to push your issue, but it may take much longer, than parking the cars that aren't safe and stop the payments on them, IF there is big enough number of people then it should speed the process up.

Use the facts not the posts in the cyberspace! The car companies have the facts, media have the hearsays (my apology to those with the real problems). In order to fix the fault one has to be able to confirm it (reproduce), I'm sorry but that's how it is.
You really don't get it. VWA will never fix our cars unless they are forced to. But the onus is not on us, the purchasers, it's on VWA. I'm from the older generation also and I've never dealt with such grubs as VWA. And I was a serial Alfa/Fiat owner in the 70s and 80s.

VWA cars are basically cleverly marketed crap.

Thanks to the Fairfax articles, I think there is a (slight) chance we might get some use out of our vehicles before they become landfill without paying fortunes to 'independent' VW repairers who mindlessly toe the party line.

I bet it plays a factor in VW's cost/benefit analysis!

But alas, my resolve isn't as strong as Darryl Kerrigan's.

Hmm I would consider this video to have depth until he said he had gearbox issues...

THE TOUAREG HAS A 8 SPEED TORQUE CONVERTER ZF GEARBOX!!!

When I heard that I called bull**** on the whole video. Those gearboxes haven't had a single problem ever and they are on most new BMW's, Chryslers and quite a few others.

And the other thing the kessy uses a start / stop button. You don't need the key in the holder (that's all it is - a holder) to operate the car. I think this guy is just a toss pot.

Surprised you think that's typical. I'd say not. I'd say poor distributer attitude, and VAG should pull VWA from the loop. Plenty other importers out there.

                      • Let me give you an idea on how to handle things.

Way back in 1979 I purchased a new Holden Torana. A great car; I had it for the next 22 years. There was one problem. It had the PBR lightweight calliper that was also used in the locally produced Mitsubishi Sigma. The problem was a basic design flaw in the PBR calliper where the calliper would stick on the slides and you got a creaking sound with the brakes not releasing smoothly.

Holden had a solution to this in the form of the Girlock Colette calliper and this style of calliper is almost universal these days. Holden did not want to replace the PBR units. I worked at the NSW DMT and so had access to the service bulletins and other dealer data. I also knew what they were doing to fix new cars yet to be sold, but those already sold would see nothing done.

Now there was no social media, or Internet, or the like, so I wrote a letter to Holden and made it quite clear that worked as an engineer for the NSW DMT. There response was not to threaten me or threaten to contact my employer. It did take some complaining, but I was called by my servicing dealer and Holden agreed to fit the Girlock callipers at no cost to me. They also supposedly agreed to do the same for anyone else who also made a formal complaint to them. This was all within 12 months of buying it new. As I said, I had the car for another 21 years and never had any issues with the hybrid braking system.

There was no drama involving lawyers. They just did it. As a result, there was no public outcry, and no media involvement. It took the steam out of any complaint.

Now, if only VW could do the same thing. The unfortunate thing is that by taking the stance that they have, any back down will be seen badly. If they had simply agreed to rectify things, we would not be talking about it, and it would not be affecting VW's reputation.

Involving lawyers is not a good look. I have just had a dispute with a web site supposedly introducing clients to consultants/contractors. The introduction was not an appropriate one as I was simply not able to issue the certificate requested. When I lodged a complaint about this with them because I was going to be charged $150 for this inappropriate "introduction", the very first e-mail to me was a legal threat to pay the bill and if I didn't they would pursue the matter through the courts. Put simply, not a good look for the site and hardly likely that I was going to recommend them. After a week, they decided to waive the fee, but the damage was done.

The rule should be only involve lawyers as a last resort, and then think again and don't involve them.

Unfortunately false claims only make it harder for genuine ones to succeed.

Volkswagen Group Australia is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the parent company, Volkswagen AG.

Now admittedly, I don't know precisely how the business is structured, but I find it hard to fathom that the parent company doesn't control at least some aspects of its operations.

                                Or prudent PR work.
Obviously Fairfax don't care about any of the facts/proper investigative journalism or they wouldn't be running missleading articles and combinging issues that have nothing to do with each other.
So why should VW bother to respond when it is just going to be taken out of context or written up that VW have no clue what they are doing when there isn't a valid fix so they can't do anything?
