Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Where to go to weigh your car?

This is probably a very stupid question but where does one go to get an accurate weigh in?

WSID has a scale and the porky R weighed 1497kW there with a half tank of fuel and no driver. I think a few of the other dragstrips have scales too.

Rubbish Tip scales are NOT certified weighbridges and mostly are less than accurate Had my van weighed on one and then later same day on a certified scale and was quite a difference. Costs less than $20 for a certified printout that will stand up in Court.

Remembering of course that it is only the accurate weight at the time.

Also the tip one usually only go up in 20kg increments. If you need a legal weight go to a Certified scale as per the Google link.

I weighed my vr6 once on one at a racetrack (Barbagello Raceway in Wanneroo, WA). No idea if it was certified but it came out to 1260kg from memory. No driver, half tank of fuel.

Infact... I still have the photo...

Decent alignment shops will now have portable scales. A pad goes under each wheel to aid in corner balancing the suspension set up. Just have to do the ring around but I found a Fulcrum outlet at Stafford has one. Haven't been yet so please let us know how you went

Thanks for the heads up everyone. I'll give them all a try. Google is definitely my friend. I'm heading to the drags next week so I'll give them a call and see what they've got to offer.

Where to go to weigh your car?

So I followed google and went to a local weighbridge near me. It cost $27.50 for the weigh in. I had also phone Rocklea and it was $20. The scales seemed to go up and down in 20kg increments as it settled it seemed to stay on 1300kgs but the printout reads 1320kgs. I think the actual weight is somewhere in between. This is back seats removed and spare with no driver.

So your back seats would weigh another 40KG at least and was the fuel tank full

The Tare mass should be as weighed at the factory.

10 litres of fuel and all other liquid tanks full with a spare and no driver.

This 'weigh in' was to get a base-line for track and drags. I'd like to see with some further modifications it drop further and hopefully see some faster times. The tank was half full per my track appearances.
