Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Vehicle listed as statutory write off - can it be changed

Was just having a look through the Pickles Salvage site to see if there were any repairable write offs but most of the Euro cars are Statutory writes offs.

Most of them dont even look that badly damaged. IE this vento

02/96, Volkswagen, Vento, Sedan - Pickles Auctions Australia

I'm fairly certain that the only reason this is a stat write off is cause they cant get the parts to repair it in Australia. I could get the parts in UK or europe and ship them over.

Does anyone know if once a vehicle has been listed as a statutory Write off, can that be changed to a repairable write off or is there a way it can be registered in another state?

    Cheers

I am pretty sure you can't register a stat write off car in NSW, but other states I am not too sure
