Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'll be there on the Wednesday (wonder if I can get the $100 discount again) in the Roc so I'm not too worried. Glad I did the Progression course when the GTI's are R where available (best test drive of a new car I'll ever enjoy) - I wonder what they did with all those cars. Being a change-over year it's hard to know if they'll go back to the GTI next year when the Mk7 is available (this event also has a strong marketing focus remember).

Given the kind of people I saw there last time (not too many enthusiasts) and the driving exercises (slalom, braking/swerve from set speed), there probably isn't a huuuuge need for the faster GTI/R anyway. You won't be accelerating that fast through the cones (only on your laps at the end) and they all have XDA now as well.

When manufacturers can't sell the cars with the reasonable profit they start cutting of what is not needed. I wouldn't give anything for free to someone who bargains me down to the rock bottom price when buying my products, that's for sure.

The last year they probably couldn't sell the tickets, so I was offered 3 for free. I gave them all to my daughters and sil in their mid 20's, knowing that they needed it more than I. Why 3 and why me? I don't know? Maybe it was because I didn't drive a hard bargain the last 4 times when we were buying a new car from them.

... and wait there is still more; the models that come to AU are missing the features (not talking that some don't even make it to AU), because of the buyers who don't want to pay even a fair price for the new car.

      The end of rant.
Manufacturers sell cars for a set amount, and then dealerships and distributors determine how much they want to sell the cars for at retail. They absolutely do not sell cars for "rock bottom price", they just convince you that they do. The truth is there's a lot more room to move on the RRP for a car than they make it out to be.

Is this being put on by VW or the local dealer(s)? May have to contact my local VW dealer...
By the sounds of it just local. They rang today to ask if I was attending. I asked if there would be a GTI. Was told no not released till November. So I said no. It's a stupid time in the day and mid week. I work 15 min from the track but can't even go at lunch due to there stupid timings. Seems a ploy to just get those that are serious enough to take the day of or leave work to test drive.

Who knows - maybe they're preoccupied with the Golf 7 launch.

Have to wait for them to update my details and send me a code to register on YouVW while I watch the remaining bookings quickly head towards 0 on my preferred event

Was hoping I'd get the email they mentioned today but I now doubt that will happen.

Also still waiting for my e-mail. What is the cost with the discount code and is there any way I could do the Evolution course without doing the Progression course?

They just can't get it right!! I signed in with my email address and entered that address in the booking section and got the message
"email address already in use". How can it be in use, its mine?

Had to book with a hotmail address.

Same thing happened to me so used another email.

R36 DSG - You need to prove you have done progression course to do the Evolution.

Just to clarify, I have registered an account on the Driving Experience website. I called VW customer care using the same number I did last year to get the $100 discount, but she said I needed to get from YouVW.com.au - but in order to register there you need to enter an ID that you receive when you first buy the car. Since I'm a 2nd hand owner I don't have that code, and have to fill in a form to transfer that membership over (why don't they have my details from when I serviced the car?).

So they have to send me the form, I have to fill it in, 24hours later I get a code, register on YouVW.com.au, get the discount code, and then probably find all the bookings are taken.

For those getting the error that the email address is in use - you've probably signed up using that address before (i.e. last year). Search your email for your random password, then click Manage Booking, sign in, then go and create a new booking.
