Looks kinda goofy to me. Like a giant Opel Insignia. At least the rear looks ok.

Grew up buying/driving these things.. agree it isn't a bad update, I don't mind the front - not sold on the rear, and the dash is ok.

Would it tempt me back into the stable? No.. that ship has sailed, as I suspect it has for most of their former buyers.

(Not sure how one of the commenters on the Motor Report site sees the VW Jetta in the rear either!)

Yeah I'm gone from the Holden stable too... Won't go back likely. At the moment their cars just don't interest me. Would maybe consider an Opel though.

Interesting items with dash ...

flat bottom steering wheel
electric park brake
push button start/stop
large display screen

although, I guess these features a par for the course these days

Looks very good for Holden but the rear taillights are slim for my liking - dare I say it looks abit like a CC from some rear angles.

I think I like it overall, but when I first saw the rear I thought Mazda for some reason.

Don't see myself owning one.

interior is tacky but remarkably better than the old one. top effort with the technology integration, holden.

The two big issues are going to be price and fuel consumption - no details about engine options

Overall, I am lost with Holden's strategy:

One of Holden's dumbest moves actually, dumping European Barina and Astra five minutes before the big car market started its decline and Australians began their renewed interest in European stock. Ford stuck by their dearer Fiesta and Focus

And now, just when the big cars are being re-invented with turbo 4 cyclinder units,
Holden reveal a thumping big (heavy?) new Commodore

Either Holden will fail badly or they will dominate the small void left by the departure of other brands

Another point I'm interested to observe is how boat owners get on pulling a boat with a 4 cyclinder turbo engine (Falcon etc)
These 4 cylinder turbo's can have a lot of torque but duty cycle comes into play
Running them hard for extended periods may take it's toll on the engine
There is nothing like a big 6 or 8 for pure and smooth low down torque
Really comes into play pulling out of the water and starts in general

I saw a report on telly saying that this is Holden's last commodore. They have no replacement planned, but it looks like an SUV of some kind would fill the void. Most buyers are now buying small cars, or medium (turbo 4 cyl) cars, and then making the jump up to SUV's for towing etc.

The market for the big Aussie V6/V8 sloon seems to be evaporating...

Nope, they've already confirmed there will be a 2017 Commodore. Although it might not be Australian platform/design, as they are moving to the global architectures.

I'm not a Holden fan at all (I really hate most of their new products) but I think VF looks great! It's finally got the class that Australia's leading automotive product deserves. If only Julia Gillard came with the same classiness...

VF Commodore launch soon

Just had a look over the new VF Commodore, reported in The Age today. While large sedans are suffering due to soft roader SUV and 4WD trend, got to say the new Commodore looks pretty good, some nice touches and interesting features.

Launch is scheduled within the next couple of months.
