  • 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 7? Your favourite Golf?

I stole this idea from another forum as i found it quite interesting, it was on UK based Edition 38.

I thought it would be interesting to see what the most popular Golf is in Australia.

If you had to choose one, in stock form, which one would it be?

    My 2c

I find this really hard to answer! My favourite Golfs,

    Mk1 3dr Swallowtail
    Mk2 3dr GTI 16V '90 spec
    Mk2 Rallye
    Mk3 n/a
    Mk4 R32 Australia spec
    Mk5 R32 if it was a CW 3dr Manual
    Mk6 R
    Mk7 not impressed yet.

Has to be Mk2 as i'd put 2 models of Mk2 on my list of most wanted.

With apologies to the old time fans I had to vote for the Mk6 being my introduction to the VW family.

Must admit this site has opened my eyes to some of the awesome older cars around and hope to eventually see some of these at shows/cruises.

I'm expecting Mk5 or Mk6 to win! We missed out on a lot of good, earlier model Volkswagens in Australia. The Golf has only really become popular from Mk5 on i think.

Mk3 and Mk6 for cars with airbags...
But if one were to keep it real it would be emkay 3 for sure.

              Mk2 Rallye , box arches , synchro , cable shift and g-lader.
              Mad bit of kit.

Mk 2 Rallye or mk4 R32. Anything with DSG can burn in fire, and the Mk6 and 7 look like a blind man took a dump and stuck his finger in it then called it art...

                  Bit biased, but,
                  MK2 GTI G60.

                  Can't beat a lardy MK1, look a like

is a tad hard, but id say mk2.
firstly there's the 2dr 16V GTI (hehe), then there's the Rallye, and then there's the Limited. 16V G60 4WD how can you go past that!!

but i love the rawness and simplicity of Swallowtail mk1's too

looks like like a CL, goes like a R32.

but yeah, a 2dr would be nice.
hang on.. didn't they make 1 2dr one??

I think so, i think there was also a Rallye with 16VG60. There was a 16VG60 Corrado or two as well.

I think the MK3 is a clear winner for me. Some nice aggressive lines, still has the same steering feel that seems lost in more modern cars but not as uncomfortable a daily proposition as some of older models.

Other than that itd be a mk1 for me. But only as a weekend car. Nothing more fun to punt about in on the street.
