Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

maybe i should start the conversation with every dealer stating that I'm expecting a nice VW jacket and a centre console bottle opener or this deal is never going to happen

        VW Welcome Pack

Wife got flowers, bottle of champers and travel mug.

I got the usual welcome pack, two key rings, jacket, travel rug some other bits and pieces, iPod MDI cablex2.

        Magazine etc comes regularly

Got the one year gift in the form of a $1200 photo session (which I sold).

At both services they have left oil fillup and windscreen washer bottles in the boot, even though I've never used either.

actually...when we bought the Fabia we DID get a bottle of wine, AND a HUGE bunch of flowers, AND a SKODA Umbrella, AND a key ring. The owners kit came in the mail, in a lovely presentation box with our Owner ID and Road Assistance Card.

Once again, I think the majority of that was dealer driven.

You did buy from dealer stock though.

I think if you do a factory order or get a less premium model (i.e. not an RS or a GTI/R) they tend to skimp.

I got a full tank of fuel (which I negotiated at sale) and 2 key rings and VW Calendar. I was told that the official VW welcome pack will be delivered to my home. not sure what that contains yet.

I got a hamper thing, that had a bottle of wine in it, some sour dough biscuit things and some marmalade all locally made and two key rings.

I asked how much fuel was in it when I was picking it up and they went and filled it right up.

Got a few phone calls for a few weeks after that checking up and making sure everything was going good.

Was more than I expected to get really.

I got a really nice VW golf (as in the sport) umbrella with mine. Was sitting in the showroom waiting for me when I picked it up. Got to drive it out with 19km on the clock.

When I saw it I didn't even think it was my car I couldn't believe how good it looked.

Then 3 days later someone put a dent in my door

Should really be car sales 101.

Good service = multiple purchases by me + recommendations; bad service = no sales and me passing that story on to family, friends and clients in the market.

Hmmm - certainly does seem to be very much dependant on the dealer, the sales person and the car you bought:

Touareg V6, factory order, Lennock (ACT): Gift basket, thank-you note, VW key rings, follow up phone call.
New Beetle Cabrio, factory order, Moore Park (NSW - now closed): Nothing. They even refused to give me the special VW child seat that was supposed to be delivered with all of the first 200 limited run Cabrios, even after escalating the matter to VWA.
Golf TDI, dealer stock, Moss Vale (NSW): VW key rings, thank-you note, follow up phone call.
Caddy TDI, factory order, Lennock (ACT): VW key rings.
Polo GTI, dealer demo, Lennock (ACT): GTI key rings.
Tiguan 144, factory order, Slaven (ACT): VW key rings, luggage set, thank-you note, phone calls.
Golf R, dealer stock, Barlow (VIC): VW key rings, phone calls.

I won't accept a car delivery (dealer or private) with less than a full tank of petrol.

I should note that the above list isn't a full reflection of the during- and after-sales performance of each dealer, but there's no doubt that getting some nice branded goodies upon delivery or soon after helps for future sales from that dealer.
