  • Bad experience with Bryan Byrt Skoda (Mount Gravatt)

I wanted to share my experience of dealing with Bryan Byrt Skoda (Mount Gravatt) with everyone on vwwatercooled.

On Thursday of last week I agreed to purchase a demo car for $15990 on the road. I signed the paperwork which the dealer assured me would be sent through by email. I never received the paperwork, but didn't think anything of it. Volkswagen Financial Services provided the interest rate over the phone and everything seemed quite reasonable.

Today, I went to pick up the car. I almost signed everything without a second though, when I noticed the amount to be financed was an extra thousand dollars $16990. $700 for dealer administration charge, the other $300 wasn't even itemised. Also there was $398 for loan a establishment, which wasn't disclosed when I was given the finance details over the phone (only the interest rate and repayment amount).

Needless to say, I told them to forget it. The dealer tried to tell me that I was getting a good deal, and that the $700 dealer admin and the other $300 were part of the finance. I took the bus home. The dealer phoned and said the $300 was for "bits and bobs, such as stamp duty" - what a bunch of chancers. I would have been paying a total of $16990 + an extra $398 (not telling me about this I could have put down to an oversight).

I owned a Skoda when i was living in the UK; their dealership network is second to none and they consistently come out top in customer satisfaction surveys. I think Skoda Australia will struggle if this is an example of their dealership network.

I'll be looking for a new car this weekend - probably an ex-demo VW Polo.

I had a Bryan Byrth Volkswagen salesguy lose his cool and hang up when I mentioned I had an offer from a car broker. He got back to me again later though with a nice offer, and bought a MY13 Passat wagon from them in the end.

Just a quick update: In the guys at Bryan Byrt came good in the end, and even threw in a load of extras as way of an apology. I ended up getting a spectacular deal - saving thousands off the list price.

I heard a smikar story on Bryan Byrt used in Mt Gravatt, adding hellish fees to the sale of a used car, luckily the lady in question was able to get out of it in the cooling off period

The question now is "are you going to get it serviced there"?

Well, not such a good outcome after all. I have asked them several times, through email and telephone calls, a couple of simple things. Such as:

                    1. Would it be possible to have a copy of the sales invoice?
                    2. When is the car due for a service? I bought it with just 25km on the clock - computer says it's due in 300 days, sticker on window says Nov (1 year after rego)
                    3. Can you please order some carpet mats - you would think that would be easy enough.

They are bloody useless and I would never buy a car there again. Will be avoiding their service department too.

Also, still waiting on the 5 year warranty coming through from Skoda.

                        Hey seaninbrisbane

We got burned by the same mob
Bought a new Yeti and they said they would match a "deal" being offered by 2 other dealers
TDI DSG 4x4 with sat/nav and leather $35K "drive away"
None of their cars we saw had sat/nav but the salesman had previously said on numerous occasions
that they would fit a sat/nav from another car and it would be "same as factory fitted" - his words

So when we pick up the car it had a Zenec sat/nav unit -
an aftermarket sat/nav that is cheaper and not as good as the Columbus

Ripped off and treated like fools - not happy

                        Posted the full details here

In passing, the Zenec seems a good sat/nav -
it is not what was offered and doesn't have voice activation for one

                          .
To comply with warranty it's 15,000km or 12 months from date of first rego - whichever is first but if it was me I'd go 15,000km or 12 months from build date. Depends if you are happy to do it early or want to stretch it as long as possible.

Yep very similar story when I took my brother in law there for Yeti shopping. After a long list of bad customer service, no contact and then a dodgy deal he decided to keep his Golf GTI and tell them to go jump.

IMO it's the preexisting dealerships like Bryan Byrt who have other brands like Ford, Mitsubishi, Holden & Hyundai etc. that realize VAG cars are selling very well in the market and want to capitalize that are the most rubbish.
