Also, many of these "odd" undercover police cars are made available (at no cost) to the police by the manufacturer/importer in the hope they will buy them in the next round of purchases. In Sydney, this has been done by Subaru (WRX), Mercedes (Smart), BMW (Mini), Chrysler (Jeep). Funny how they still stay with the staples of Commodore, Falcon, Camry, Rhodeo, etc.

Anyway as it stands today, a Falcon xr6 turbo or SS Commodore really can't be beat as a highway bruiser for under 50k.

VWs of all kinds are big down here in Canberra, I think it goes back to the 60s when the government cars were VWs, as the govt sold them off the public developed a taste for them.
The Federal Police have loads of Transporters as patrol vehicles and they use Crafters for the riot police for when you rabble from the rest of the country come to town to shout at politicians.

Since returning to Canberra after 20 years away I live out in the darkest reaches of the suburbs.
I'm pretty sure most Canberrans believe we have a better class of bogan here too, though all the primer covered pretend HSV VN Commodores would beg to differ (I will still never understand why anyone would actually spend money trying to "improve" a VN Commodore).
