Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

No more Cruzin': Holden recalls 10,000 cars | News.com.au

Glad I don't own one of these!

Mmmmm... A hole drilled in the (which is what the fix will likely be) to allow the oil to run off, or endlessly having my Mechatronics replaced, reset, or my DSG replaced... I'd rather have my car burn to the ground then deal with the dramas of owning a DSG equipped car. At least Holden and GM are taking responsibility for a known problem...

How you turned "Holden said a condition has been identified where the car’s belly pan can catch oil that might drip from the engine if an oil change is not done properly" in to HOLDENS CATCH FIRE is a mystery to me......

Haha, I was just taking the over dramatised heading of the thread to the extreme, but yes, I would rather deal with having my car burn to the ground from a known warranty issue (in the highly unlikely event that it would) than deal with VW over DSG warranty issues... VW + Customer Service = Fail..

It was only for the 1.4 petrol turbo and this does not affect Australian models USA only

It does affect the Australian-assembled cars apparently.

Seriously, these are easily one of the worst cars you can buy right now.

So much hype, but very poor quality.

i love all the nay-sayers out there regarding the cruze.

you all comment on how poor a car it is and how so and so is a better car focus/golf is etc etc..
have you ever bothered to price them up? Base model Focus doesnt even have "cruise". and you can't option leather on a focus, only on a titanium, and only the squabs are then leather..
Leather on a golf? $3K right???

CDX cruise comes with leather and heated seats etc etc...
most buyers in the segment couldnt care less about it being underpowered (1.8L version) and wouldnt pay the 3K price premium for the diesel... for it's price, it's a briliiant car, and hence it's selling well.

It's locally built. Helps our industry, and is packed with features.
                      also selling well.
and a recall is done to prevent a possible issue if an oil change is incorrectly performed...

o, and I "love" how in the article the image has the caption that it's being recalled as an oil "leak" could catch fire... me thinks they should correct that and write spill.. but why let truth get in the way of sensationalism...

i'm sure if oil was spilt on the base of my "drip tray" in the golf/passat/mx5 etc etc that it could also potentially catch fire....

Doesn't that help them get the 5 star ANCAP rating?

By that arguement, the Chery J1 is an outstanding car.

You get what you pay for - the Cruze is great value but a bland drive. It's like an i30.

                          Umm no.
What's the ancap of the cherry?

Bland drive? What proportion of the market actually cares?
Marketing doesn't care of its a bland drive. They care about sales...

Just because they threw a lot of gizmos at the Cruze doesn't automatically make it a good car.

Having worked at several multi-franchise dealerships over the years, I've been able to sample a lot of cars. The Cruze in on par with the trash that Hyundai was churning out 10 years ago, except with more gizmos, of course.

The Mk5 Golf has two foot rests for the driver.

I'm not sure how the foot rests would impact on the ANCAP ratings.
