Ok so I had a look at the virgin plans and found that they had a deal until the end of the month where you got an extra 2GB of data. So I decided to switch to them and I now have a galaxy S3 for $49 a month (total) with $450 worth of calls and text and 2.25GB of data!!

So far I'm really happy sith the pho e and the reception is much better than I got with Vodafone

Nice one mate. Mind getting the Speedtest app and running some tests with WiFi off?

[+] Just had a try on mine (Galaxy S2, Telstra NextG, ~45km SE of Melbourne)

      Can't complain about that.

No, but if it's a general Android question I might be able to help... or Google it...

Haha no, just curious, looking into getting my first 'smart' phone.
Currently using a 5 year old, $90 Telstra 'special' ZTE.

              motorola defy on telstra
always has reception, no drop outs, especially when friends on craptus get nothing.
              nice wifi, bt and gps.
nav is via google maps, works great and uses next to no data.
sturdy durable phone, have dropped it heaps, no damage to speak of, only with a screen protector and no case.
If you are happy with android, this is a great phone

physically smaller than iphone 4, but with slightly bigger usable screen size

i got a samsung galaxy note...

i use it to play a "find the differences between the two pictures" whilst im taking a dump, and not much else, to be honest.

im sure that there's more functionality to be exploited, though....

Off topic a little bit, but I just got a Sony Xperia S about 2 weeks ago. VERY VERY happy with it. A nice improvement over my old X10. This time I dropped Virgin (after having really crappy customer service) and going to vodafail. Got a good deal too.

I find the screen (4.3" 1280X720-so uber high PPI) and the camera (12mp :O and it has a fairly quick shutter speed) of the Xperia S the most braggable. Also I was surprised at how good the build quality is and how nice the materials are that are used.

However I will admit that vodafail certainly have terrible reception. At uni I have 1 or 2 bars sometimes none. Even in the CBD where I work I only have 3 bars. :/ But a great phone nonetheless.

Very very good choice. Same phone as me . The battery life drops a bit after a while, so say out of regular use, it will die in under 24 hours, but I charge it at work, and as soon as I get my new Polo by the end of the week, it'll charge in my car too whenever I decide to drive it (thank goodness for the built-in MDI ).

It is a phone with a pretty damn big screen, with a stupidly overpowered camera (for a phone), it is also quite a sexy phone very well finished and performs amazingly well.

I am thinking of getting the Xperia P as well - the next size down from the S, as the P will most definitely last a lot longer than the S - it's virtually the same, but with a smaller screen, a slightly smaller processor - but I want a phone that's going to last me more than a day without a charge occasionally.

It is a nice improvement over the X10 AND the Arc - I had an Arc - its speed got bogged down because its processor is so slow.

I love Sony phones, I plan on ordering some old Sony Ericsson Walkman phones for use (and possibly collect) - they were some of the best phones to have back in the day and still great to have even today.

HEven more slightly offtopic, but if you guys want to drastically improve battery life on your android phones I'd recommend the app "juice defender". When I first got my phone the battery wouldn't last 8hours during the day but after I installed it became like 3 times better. Getting an app to kill background apps you aren't using helps aswell.

I've recently rooted the phone and am running a different rom and have overclocked the phone (its now running like a much more expensive phone then it was ) and am still running juice defender. My battery is even better now, get like 3 days out of a charge even though it's overclocked.
