Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Where has customer service gone?

Just been trying to source prices on parts today and am gob smacked at how appalling customer service is these days. I've rang 3 different wreckers over the course of the day with all 3 saying "mate, whats your details, I'll get back to you straight away". Obviously, times must be good for them as I have had no call back.

After giving up on used parts, thought I'd ring a dealer and ask for parts department..then got a response of "huh, who'd ya wanna speak to".

It's no wonder people are resorting to online shopping and sourcing stuff from o'seas (and usually cheaper).....rant over
I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....

Customer service in Australia is absolutely abysmal... For the **** that Americans cop, they are all over customer service, as are a lot of European countries.

It all depends who you deal with !

It does indeed depend on who you deal with, some places are incredibly helpfull. Some places are useless. Ive had very mixed experiences, even with some of the highly regarded businesses associated with the forum. I shouldnt have to specifically ask for someone to get back to me knowing that if I dont, they wont. A simple call back saying sorry mate, dont have one, would be nice but seems to be rare from local people, and it is very annoying.

        Unless I need something urgently
or its something massive I cant have shipped somewhat cheaply I buy online, can do much more research of different choices and its heaps cheaper, so I see no downsides. If locals want us to support them, they should look after their customers more, who would then buy more from them, instead of complaining about how everyone is buying from overseas.

Theres my rant for the day. There are some really helpfull people around, so this definitely doesnt apply to them all.

That sounds great. Sites like that (which are actually accurate) are very helpfull.

Leads me to another thought of mine, if more local people made good, functional sites, where people can see their stock and prices, add things to cart and just do the whole sale through the site, I'm sure a lot would get a lot more sales from people like myself who prefer to spend time browsing the internet where I can look at photos and such at whatever time I like (usually outside of business hours) and quickly compare prices without spending time calling people to not get answers. I know I check (the incredibly limited range of) australian sites that sell vw parts before I head to the us based sites.

Times are changing so if the locals want to stop losing business to overseas they need to keep up. Although I can see that the demand for old vw parts might not be worth the time over here

It just depends on what the seller specialises in . Im probably the most varied workshop in Australia and could challenge most worldwide workshops with variance on what VW/Audi parts/cars I use to test+promote (even if some are getting built)

              Golf R Daily street/strip
              R32 Circuit car (lhd)
              S3 Time attack car
              VR6T Time attack/ drag car
              16V MK3 loan car
Audi 5 cylinder speedway Midget race car
              MK3 VR6 R32 ITBs automatic
MK4 2 door gti 9 sec drag car

              and a few others
So Im going to keep some parts in stock for those cars just in case mine go but will benefit customers who do similar builds that need parts .....
