Back to Transporters comments.. The Prius C is pretty much a Toyota Yaris hybrid which will be sold in Europe. The Yaris currently doesn't compete well with the VW UP! or Skoda Citigo which look like dominating that segment.

VW POLO WCOTY 2010 "nothing to write home about"??? By calling this Toyota a 'Prius', Toyota are hoping to lift the image of an otherwise unattractive and boring vehicle which is basically a reworked Yaris. Review looks way off to me, little effort put in. I wonder if he even drove the vehicles.

All publications (and people for that matter) exhibit a degree of bias. It's up to the reader how they choose to digest it.

In regards to VW reviews, I've seen many articles that either excessively praise or overly criticise in equal measure.

I usually don't take reviews at face value, and I personally confirm or nullify their findings by going for a test drive myself.

Did you read the comments section? Just because it's on the internet, doesn't mean its true.

Personally I take car awards with a large grain of salt. I will buy the car I am happy with, not if someone else is happy with it.

As hooba pointed out, the link isn't quite true.
It does show that hybrids and EVs are even more heavily subsidised by tax payers when you read this article and read that for non-lead acid batteries
Battery recycling is energy-intensive, and it takes 6 to 10 times more energy to reclaim metals from recycled batteries as it does to produce the materials through other means, including mining
                and
Manufacturers, agencies and governments still must provide subsidies to support the battery recycling programs. This is underwritten by a tax added to each manufactured cell.
so the recycling plants need heavy government funding to operate as they are not commercially viable (not that just tossing them is a good idea).
