Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mobile speed cameras in sydney

    Hi fellas,
I was travelling West bound on Kissing Point Road today, near Dundas when I spotted a white mobile speed camera vehicle parked on the other side of the road. It was facing East and FYI, it's a six lane road.

Anyone know if they check speeds from both directions? There were no warning signs for cars travelling West. However, I noticed a 'warning sign' and a 'your speed has been checked' on the other side of the road. Surely, they'd get you from the back.... what about from the front?

Apparently it is possible for the cameras to do 8 lanes split in any combination. I wouldn't think they would utilise this on a multi lane road ie 2 or more each way. With a bit of
Luck there was a concrete or shrub divider.

They can do both ways. But the amount of traffic is the problem for them because its possible for you onthe other side of the road to be going fast and a fraction of a second later a car in the closest direction opposite goes by. So when the photo is taken which car is speeding. Anyway it depends largly upon traffic conditions

According to this they had to have had the warning signs 50 metres before the vehicle to give you enough warning.

Yeah I see that guy there all the time on my way into work. He's dirty and puts the 'warning sign' in front of his car.

I've heard that it's a private company and not the police that runs these cameras?

ANd if you think you've been caught, take a photo of the van and sign (yes, it means going back) and use it as evidence.

Yeah well good luck with that!
They've been putting the warning signs in front of the vans for ages.
Much as I hate them, the position of the signs don't change your speed.....

No, it doesn't change your speed but if the van is incorrectly signed or in an incorrect location, your fine can be cancelled.
