Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Can anyone suggest a good tripod for my Canon 60D

Hey all, i'm after a small tripod for my Canon 60D.

Main use for it will be shooting pics of cars as i've noticed i tend to have a bit of a lean when shooting down low.

Just after anyone's suggestions for particular ones to look at or even a good brand to look into.

I use the Manfrotto 190XPROB with 804RC2 head. Great tripod, can't fault it.

The pivoting centre column is great for getting shots from close to the ground.

There's quite a few out there. Depends on your budget. Manfrotto tripods are rated quite highly. They can get a bit pricey if you opt for carbon fibre ones. Personally I use a Slik Pro 500DX which I got as a present a few years ago. It has plenty of adjustments on the tripod and the head, and is a tad heavy, which I prefer as it's more stable.
I'd stay away from the cheap $50 tripods as you will be putting your $1000+ camera in the hands of a flimsy aluminium frame.

Ok so manfrotto is one to look at.

I'm not to sure what my budget is as i didn't really know what brands were good to look at.

What kind of ball park price would i be looking at for one of them and where would be the best place to buy from?

I use this combo too. Excellent tripod and head for the money (around $300). Heavy though, and very large, even when contracted.

To the OP: I'd recommend Manfrotto, Gitzo or Slik in that order.

Ok so i certainly have some options now.

Might have to go and actually have a look at some on display somewhere so i can play around with them and see which one i like.
