There's so much talk about independents doing a better job but at a lower cost than dealerships, but what about with major or DSG services? Can independents like VW Village perform proper DSG service that wouldn't harm my new car warranty?

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Major and DSG services with independents

Legally they can. Getting any service done at authorised independents will NOT void your new car warranty. However, many people don't believe independents have the specific knowledge about the DSG system in order to service it correctly. Although this may be true about many independents, I'm sure there are many out there that have had sufficient training and experience in servicing DSG systems.

All my customers trust me with their DSGs and they don't go to the dealer to get the DSG serviced.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

There's nothing overly complicated about servicing a DSG. You just need the right filling tool & the right technical resources.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

the workshop i use is headed by a former vw mechanic and does a brilliant job and comes highly recommended up here. the other question is why you would want to take you car to the stealership to have a high chance of an apprentice work on your car as opposed to a fully trained mechanic?

They have apprentices in private workshops, too. You'll find in most private shops, the apprentices are far more independant tha those in a dealership. Also, VW trains it's own apprentices these days.
As for the topic at hand, if the private shop has the gear, and the know-how, then yeah, why not?'07 Transporter 1.9 TDI
