  • Free mechanical warranty

I recently bought a New Golf TDi from Central Coast VW Gosford. I received in the mail today a free additional 2yrs warranty. It doesn't cover towing or have any extras like hire care or accommodation. My comprehensive insurance does anyway. The catch is you must always have it serviced at their dealership.

Still it's not a bad marketing ploy to entice you to have them service your car.

It's a bit useless if you happened to breakdown 1000kms from home

Are other dealerships doing this for free?

    Very common retention strategy.

Read the T&Cs very carefully as many don't cover the same items as the factory warranty (which you can extend to 6 years for an ~$1500).

Also, some of the dealers insist you service much more often than the factory requirements - effectively over-servicing the vehicle & costing you double the money.

Lets face it, nothing is free in business.

I got the same thing from Inchcape (Denlo Parramatta).. There's a list they gave me of specific things that they 'cover' in the 4th and 5th year provided I only service the car with them. So Brad's right: read the T&C

From memory the value of the credit was $2000

I'm at the stage now where I'm trying to decide if it's worth bringing my car back to them for service, or save my money and go to a VW specialist..
