Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW Dealership Service Charges

Just booked my car into a Kloster VW to get them to look at the DSG transmission and see if there is grounds for good will replacement of the mechatronics unit. I asked the lady who made the booking for me about what charges there was for them looking at it and she said it was $159/hr for them just to look at it. F*** off, is this normal..? Just to get them to look at the damn thing, before any work is even done.

I was quoted $140/hour labour rate by an Audi/Skoda dealer in Melbourne last year for non-warranty work. $159 seems even steeper, but sure a dealer won't do it for nothing, or even for cheap. If you get a goodwill repair this cost might be offset against that with luck.
