Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW and the random assortment of bolts holding the car together...

Is it just me, or is the MKV held together with a huge box of "odd bolts"? I don't know if anyone else has noticed, I'm sure you have! Are all VW's like this?

So far, I've seen triple squares, normal bolts, torx, reverse torx or e-torx or whatever they are called... Are there any others? Even under the car where the steering rack, suspension and stuff is bolted in there's 3 or 4 different sized heads!

It seems like they've really over complicated it... And it makes it a pain to dismantle

Does anyone know of a "euro tool kit" that contains everything? I've got most of the ones I need already, but it might help someone else!

Isn't that what German engineering is all about?

Mk3 seems to be the same. NEver really thought of it like that, does all seem a bit unneccesary though. There is a few different types, but they seem to have pretty standard sized heads throughout the car depending on the size of bolt. You notice this when its those 2 sockets and one hex head bit that you need to undo everything, that you have misplaced
