Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • First Traffic Summon

So.. after 8+ yrs of driving, I just received my first ever traffic summon from the Vic Police.. I jumped the lights at an intersection around Richmond.. I knew I got caught as soon as I went past the lights, saw the reflection of flash from my mirror.. Definitely my fault and it was a silly thing to do, of course. I was ready to cop the fine.

But I wasn't prepared for the amount..

    Sigh....

So you jumped a red light and there was a hypothetical guy who ran the dark yellow coming the other way who you did not see.

I'd say the fine and penalty is better than what could have happened.*

*devils advocate here, not being judgemental.

I'd still ask to see the photographic evidence still in case there is anything suspicious.

      That sucks dude.

See if you can get off with a warning because you havn't had a fine in 8yrs+, its a long shot though.

FYI if a cyclist did the same thing its a $95 fine....

I was recently stung $206 for parking (after half an hour of looking) with the A pillar forward into a no stopping zone in a dead end street off another dead end street. I wasn't obstructing anyone as there was a traffic island in front of me. Yes I was technically parked illegally but not dangerously. Worst thing, they fined me 3 minutes after I got out if the car, they where obviously waiting.

Yup, definitely could have been worse. Like I said, it was a silly thing to do, error in judgement - It was a dedicated turning right light that I jumped, so most of the vehicles around the intersection were idling - I thought I would have made it. Still, my fault..

Nothing suspicious, it was clear as a day.

I'm just surprised at the amount, that's all. Never had a traffic summon before, didn't really know what amount I was expecting but it's just a very big shock to me.
