  • VW Haters at Car Sales.

    Folks,

I looked at the carsales article on the Honda CR-Z winning COTY ( another story in itself), and I was surprised about all the reader comments from VW haters.

Honda hybrid is Wheels Car of the Year

VW Owners may want to even the score ?

Not at all - the fact the whole discussion turned from being about a so called "amazing" car to VW just makes it more apparrent how far VW has come in australia. 10 years ago nobody would have mentioned VW in such a discussion.

The article does not mention VW. if the conversation turns to an VW, so be it.

I love my toy, but I bought the car, not the badge. VW have made some awesome cars and do some amazing engineering. They are also responsible for some really poor reliability issues, as most budget manufacturers are...

Exactly .... It is the schaden frauden comments from readers, about the Sirocco not winning, and then comments on VW reliability. You are correct VW does have quality issues, but they aren't the most unreliable car out there. They push the envelope of commercialising technologies (DSG, twin charger etc) and force the competition to make better cars. I don't understand the haters. Now if it was Hyundai, I would understand.

Hondas have won nothing for quite a while. VW has dominated awards for the past few years much to the ire of Japanese car fans whose brands once dominated the Australian car buying public. I guess they are making the most of a small victory.

I prefer to look at the genuine age of the Scirocco design and consider how well it has done against newer vehicles.

Lets remember that Toyota survived for a long time on its reliability.

ive got a crz at my work, its the biggest POS ive seen, how it got COTY we'll never know, but i reckon honda payed a mint for it to happen. My 4 year old son couldnt even sit in the back of it.

Id rather save 10k and get a full sized car that WILL seat 5 and great fuel economy. Polo/Golf TDI.

                    Love it!! hahahahaha....
i really dont see why people feel the need to defend what sort of car they buy!
seriously... i buy a car for reasons that suit me at the time of purchase...
many factors go into that choice including the fact that it will be my car and i have to drive it nearly everyday... so be buggered if someone else is gonna dictate to me why i should/shouldn't buy it... i'm an adult.. of sound mind. (well mostly) and think i can think for myself... I'm also pretty thick skinned (we own a new beetle cabrio) so dont care what others say about my car choices etc...
I believe that I am a car enthusiast. I like my VW but can appreciate everyone is different and may actually want to drive something else... so be it.. i dont have to drive what they drive so why would it bother me?

                        x2

There is a guy here at my work who loves his Subaru, he likes to argue that it is the best car in the world. Unless you agree with him he will hang around all day arguing about it. He really gets the ****s when you ask him for evidence to back up his argument, he can't because it all based on his opinion.
The thing I can't get through to him is that his car is the best in world for him, based on his opinion and his priorities of what a car should be.
I guess the problem is that no one can convince him that his priorities are not the same as everyone else, and particularly not mine.
What he thinks is an acceptable compromise I just can't live with, he cares not for nice interior and trimming, and hard plastic is OK. I don't think AWD is all that important but to him a car is nothing without it.

So you are not comparing apples to apples, as I like oranges better.

These discussions/comments on the article web site are all examples of the same thing. There is no right or wrong, there is no winner.
