Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Pre-purchase inspections in Melbourne?

Hey guys, a search didn't yield many results at all, but as you might know I'm in the market for a used R32.

At the moment I've got two places that do PPIs

    1 - Volkspower, quoted me $100 for 1hr

2 - Auto dynamics in Cheltenham, same price, but said more $$ and hours for a more thorough inspection

Has anyone had any experience with any of these guys in the past?

My other option was to take it to a VW dealer, who said they could do a RWC and run it through VAGCOM to check for errors for $150, and would take 2 hours. This would be the safest option wouldn't it? Cheers in advance fellas.

That seems cheap! I recently got one done in Adelaide with the RAA and it was well over $200, but it included an inspection of the body and trim as well as a check to see if was written off, had finance owing, etc. Still, it seems a little $$-y. I would have liked to have got a VW specialist to do it, but the RAA seemed easier.

BTW - Volkspower in Burwood looks like they might be me new mechanic as they're close to my new work (Deakin Uni).
