Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I spend most of my money just keeping it running let alone adding 'go'!

I'm surprised by all the "go" votes here - the general forum discussion (drop/slam/wide/LED/HID/low) would have led me to expect "show" would be the go (so to speak)

      ---------Edit-------------------
Just to clarify, I would regard "go" as including going around corners, not just in a straight line

Agreed. I love how cars can look aesthetically...but for me and my car...

        I voted go!

I daily and track my car and enjoy driving it hard.

Most of mods I have done have been performance orientated rather than cosmetic.

I think there are two analogies I can use for this discussion.

          1. Why some ppl (e.g. real estate agents and property developers) prefer a crappy BMW 320i or Mercedes C200 to a Golf GTI or R for the badge is all about show. So assuming none of us are in that boat, it would be GO.

          2. Would you rather marry someone dependable, reliable who will be there for richer or poorer, sickness and heath etc etc (but obviously love and have passion for) or choose the drop dead hot woman (with supermodel looks) you meet at the bar, knowing that she is an absolute air head, has been around more than the town bike and has an IQ of 10?

These analogies pretty much conjure up what I thought about when I saw this post.....

Go - hence my front subframe swap to make a homebuilt GTI out of a 1.6 golf

Maintenance, more maintenance then some more otherwise the car wouldn't go anywhere!
So I guess that counts go?

precisely. no point in having shedloads of power if your FPV V8 cant even keep up with a diesel polo up around reefton spur (as in, it takes 2-3 corners to lose a "fast, big brute" car, lol).

^^^^ paul, your car is so go it's not funny. apart from the drop, it looks pretty much bog standard, but the fact that your handling mods are like an a4 page long.... noice

                      It might help.
I'm just a bit lost, there are a lot of people saying GO but no one has any GO. Unless someone has got a 12sec time slip then they must be talking about GO as in on a track and not on the street, even then probably should have gone Jap.

So what sort of GO are people trying to achieve from their VW's?

Did you manage to get your camber issue sorted at all Stan?

For me it's show - my 2.0 doesn't have go as such ... and certainly not GO as mentioned by Spyda above. That said, I'm mainly looking at handling mods at the moment to make it 'go' around corners better.

ohhh okay. you take "go" to mean straight line acceleration, exclusively...

most people here are talking about go as in cornering ability mixed with some shove - you know, the kind of car you'd want to take on GOR or over reefton spur.

                            Isn't it a simple question of -

Do you spend money on the performance of your car first -ie 'GO'
                            -or-
Do you spend money purely on looks of your car first - ie 'SHOW'

Yeah thats what i initialy thought, GO as in power for speed. More so something you can use on the streets than have to wait for the track.

i'm leaning towards show these days. in the past i've had some quick sleepers but now have nicer cars that arent as quick...except for the old 911 which is both show and go
