Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Buying a used golf from a VW Dealer

Hi guys, I'm currently seriously considering a used R32 from a VW dealer. I've never bought used before, but have always wanted an R32. I haven't started any serious talk with them as of yet, but I just wanted to check a few things with you guys first.

1 - Can they lie about the cars history? e.g. accidents, crashes, mechanical/internal damage

2 - Should I still take the car to a 3rd party mechanic to get it checked out?

3 - Does the car need to have all recall work done? (If there has been any for the MkV R32s)

4 - Can I still purchase extended factory warranty if the new car warranty has expired?

5 - Should I sell my GTI privately or trade in? I don't like the idea of selling privately because I'm afraid of idiots wrecking my car on joyrides, and like the idea of trading in because it's (almost) hassle free since there's a lack of organisation I need to do. However, selling privately would probably fetch a little bit more wouldn't it?

6 - Are there any extra things I should/could get thrown in with the deal? The car doesn't even have floor mats.

Sorry if these questions seem really stupid, but I really have no clue! And can't seem to find anything relevant via the search function Thanks for the your help in advance guys and girls, I'm looking forward to joining the MkV family soon!

    1) They shouldn't but they don't have to tell you everything either...

    2) Yes.

    3) Dunno.

    4) Dunno

    5) Sell it privately. Unless you like the idea of just burning money.

    6) Whatever you can bargain.

Joy rides aren't really an issue as you'd be going with them.
