  • Cheap daily- suggestions?

    Hey all,

I recently purchased a new car, and i really don't want to use it as an everyday car, especially not to run to work in! I'm wanting to buy a nice little reliable daily for under 4k (3-3.5 would be ideal). I had a Daihatsu Terios offered to me for 3800 with 150k on it and in very tidy condition, and was about to buy it this arvo, but I can't quite bring myself to it just yet

So, i'm coming to you guys. I want something very good on fuel, reliable, cheap rego, speed bump friendly, and enough room in the back for a bike or 2, for that price range! Suggest away!

    -Drew.

I have a MK1. But the fact of it being a 20-30 year old car puts me off, i was 100% reliability. Plus, i want it to be able to hit speed bumps at top speed.

late 90s Honda Accord. Dad just about had to give his away last year ($2500) & it was immaculate with no mechanical issues

The Daihatsu would make a good cheep car. I sold a Daihatsu Charade to buy my first VW.
I owned the might 3cyl for 17years and she had done a mere 330,000km trouble free.

I'd go a Mk3 or a Seat Cordoba. Both are cheap, easy to get parts and economical (and the mk3 are easy to make look horn)

if you were still considering the daihatsu, but wanted toyota reliability, then get the daihatsu <- daihatsu is toyota's kei car company, so you can't go wrong.

i had a 98' 2 door manual lancer that i couldnt fault as a daily. Never had a problem.

Well, on second thoughts... my mates called it the nurse mobile as it was the type of car a nurse would drive.

get a falcon/boringdoore wagon if you want the room, and to be able to hit speedbumps at max speed. Plue any monkey mechanic will be able to fix it, and parts are everywhere, as are the cars, so there is plenty of choice.

negatives are that you're driving a boat, and it'll be a very dull experience. fuel is expensive too, unless you get something on gas.

otherwise, if the space things isn't such a big issue, get a seat or a mk 3 cl. Pretty reliable & honest cars. Or get anything that's honda/toyota/mitsu and in good nick.

Must be some cool 70s JDM stuff for this money, RA/TA22 Celica, Chrysler Gallant etc etc, big duckbill, pop rivet flares, stance.

A mate's selling a VT Calais for not much. He bought a newer SS and now reckons the Calais is great on fuel haha.
