  • Backdrops for Photography in and around Perth

Interested in any suggestions for good backdrops for car photography. Did you drive somewhere to take photos of your (new) car and where was it?

I'm thinking of an industrial scene - possibly at night - and making use of the rains we're forecast to get in Perth over the next few days.

Fremantle Port seems like the ideal location, but it has controlled access to the cranes and shipping containers. Can anyone recommend locations in and around Perth metro area that has access to industrial or other good photo settings? If it's not possible to actually get in and amongst the scene, at least not having a chain-link fence blocking the view is ideal.

    Cheers!

if I recall, the Readimix quarry on Cockram in Gosnells looks ok at night, but not sure about access/fencing.

Be a bit risque, but what about parking on Tonkin Hwy or the new Duntreath Rd (connects the two airports), and try getting a plane taking off in the background?

Getting close to the action is the key. I haven't scouted around much, but I'm thinking on a choppy day it might be nice here at the end of Fleet Street, Fremantle, as a large bulk carrier or container ship moves by. It could even be a slow exposure at twilight to contrast movement. Unfortunately there are no halogen street lights to help with that. The setting is complete with rusty chain, channel marker and lighthouse.

Depending on what you want, there's some nice photo ops in the hill during sunset

Heavy fines for parking on that road. The only road where you won't get your picture taken by the men in blue.

Let me make some calls. May be able to get a smelter as a background.

I was looking at the beach access from there earlier. Looks like it's possible to get onto the beach near the pier there and perhaps drive close to it and get the vanishing point effect. Looking at Google Streetview, the silos are also a good backdrop. The refinery further north looks promising, too. Will have to wash the car and get the bugs off first...

Hills or beach would be good for late afternoon shots with the setting sun. Otherwise for an industrial setting, Fremantle port somewhere with all the shipping containers etc, dunno where specifically though. Old power station always looks good in pics too.

A viewing platform was opened today on Duntreath Rd so you can watch the planes land/takeoff.

there must be a carpark so perhaps a photo opportunity from there, with planes in the background

This should be in the Events section really... Seems we missed the opportunity over summer, but BUMP to the top. Perhaps some more ideas & we can incorporate this with a cruise

I'm not sure about the access but the old Fremantle/Coogee power station would be a pretty dope back drop, very derelict. I think you can even get a car inside it.
Not that i'd want to take a car in there if I was honest with you!
